Unit 32: Part 2 | Miêu tả nơi chốn

Trong Part 2, IELTS Speaking bạn sẽ gặp chủ đề “Describe a place” – Miêu tả một địa điểm nào đó. Ví dụ một số đề phổ biến:

1. Describe a place you have visited.
2. Describe a historic place.
3. Describe a tourist attraction.
4. Describe a place you would like to visit.
5. Describe somewhere you have lived or would like to live.

Để chinh phục dạng câu hỏi này, các bạn nên đi theo chiến thuật:
B1: Xây sẵn cho mình một sườn bài có thể áp dụng trả lời mọi câu hỏi thuộc chủ đề này theo công thức AREA
- Answer: What is the name/ location of the place?
- Reason: Why do you choose to talk about this place?
- Example: Đưa ví dụ để làm rõ hơn lí do nêu trên.
- Alternatives: Có thể đưa ra ý kiến phản bác cho câu hỏi. Có thể có hoặc không

B2: Sau đó củng cố từ vựng theo từng loại địa điểm cụ thể. Phân loại theo: adjectives, activities, positive and negative things.
Ví dụ: Describe somewhere you have lived or would like to live.

Từ vựng:

• Adjectives: exciting, busy, hectic, unique, cosmopolitan, multicultural, exciting; historic but modern at the same time, it's a thriving, prosperous city, fashionable, lively, fun...
• Activities:  history, culture, art, museums; see Temple of Literature, Ba Dinh Square, etc; get a fantastic view of the city from the 72th floor of Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower; shops, restaurants and nightlife in the Old Quarter.
• Negatives:  expensive, crowded, stressful, polluted; underground system – dirty; travel - overpriced and unpleasant, high cost of living, the locals - always in a hurry, social problems (like you can find in most big cities).

(A) Today I would like to talk about a city where I’ve lived since enrolling in college, about 5 years ago.
(R) I really fell in love with this city when I first saw it because it's lively, fun, unique, fashionable, cosmopolitan and multicultural. Plus, it's historic but modern at the same time, it's a thriving, prosperous city. (E) As you may know, Hanoi is famous for its history, culture, art, museums. Tourists can go there to see Temple of Literature, Ba Dinh Square, etc. You can get a fantastic view of the city from the 72th floor of Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower. Besides, it's also known for its its shops, restaurants and nightlife in the Old Quarter. There are endless things to see and do.
(R) However there are some negative things that I cannot deny. Hanoi is expensive, crowded, stressful and polluted. (E) The underground system is dirty, travel is overpriced and unpleasant. The cost of living is high (shopping, house prices etc.), the locals are always in a hurry, there are social problems (like you can find in most big cities).

PRACTICE

1. Describe a place you plan to travel to that is far away from your home
You should say:

• Where it would be
• How you would like to go there
• What you would do there

And explain why you would like to go there

2. Describe a historical building in your area
You should say:

•  Which the building is
•  How it looks like
•  What people do there

And also say whether you like this building or not
